In the River Lighthouse

The lighthouse stands over a bridge where the river flows west from the city. Upstream, you see the urban islands in a wide canyon of beige stone; downstream the suburbs sprawl north and south of the channel, where fields used to be. Quiet barges slip down the gray and scalloped water, riding low. You are the river lighthouse.
